The recruiting class for Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawks volleyball coach Misti Nims is starting to take shape.
So far Nims has signed Jennifer Windham, a setter from Clanton.
"Jennifer brings a lot to us because she can jump set. She did real well when we had tryouts a few weeks ago. I think she'll mix in real well with our team," Nims said.
Nims is scheduled to sign Carly Dougherty today. Dougherty is an outside hitter from Mobile.
"Carly was a Mobile Register All-Area Second Team selection. She is a hard hitter with good blocking and leadership skills," Nims said.
Nims said she has received verbal commitments from three additional players.
"We're supposed to sign those players next week and we'll announce their names at that time," Nims said. "After that we'll only have one scholarship left."
Nims said seven of this year's freshmen players have indicated they plan to return next season. That list includes middle/outside hitter Holly Almony, middle hitter Lucretia Merritt, outside hitter Lashundra Clausell, setter Desiree Freeman, outside hitter Colby Adams, defensive specialist Dominique Thomas and setter/defensive specialist Kristen Phillips.
"Even though next fall will be my second season as the program's coach, this is really my first full offseason for recruiting. We've been able to get after it lot harder this year. I think the process is going well," Nims said.

JDCC Warhawks sophomore basketball player Greg Dickinson is still in third place in the nation for scoring.
Dickinson was averaging 23.6 points per game prior to Saturday's game against Gadsden State and Monday's game against Enterprise.
Jerminey Bennett of Panola College continues to lead the country at 29.7 points a game through 11 contests played. Marcus Perry of Southern Union State College remains in second place at 26.0 points through 12 games played.
JDCC baseball and softball will be the first area sports teams to open up the spring sports season.
The Warhawks baseball team will kick off its season February 3 with a 2:30 p.m. contest at Pensacola. Pensacola will return the favor and open up the home portion of JDCC's schedule on February 4 with a 2 p.m. contest.
The Lady Warhawks softball team will have to wait until February 11 for its home and season opener when it entertains Chipola at 1 p.m.
The T.R. Miller Tigers varsity football team will hold its Awards Night January 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Brewton.

Lauderdale County, which beat T.R. Miller in last year's state semifinals, currently holds the number one ranking with a 16-1 record.
The rest of the top 10 includes: 3. Abbeville (13-2); 4. Plainview (15-2); 5. DAR (13-4); 6. Glencoe (15-3); 7. West Limestone (10-3); 8. Phil Campbell (11-5); 9. Straughn (13-3); 10. Holly Pond (9-2).
"It's nice, but I don't care where we are ranked right now. I care about where we finish at the end of the season," T.R. Miller coach Ron Jackson said. "We were ranked second last year before we lost to Lauderdale County."
Three opponents on the T.R. Miller Tigers schedule are currently in the boys state rankings.
Monroe County (10-3) is currently ranked 10th in Class 4A. Monroe County beat T.R. Miller in overtime last month. The Tigers will close out the
season at Monroe County Febuary 6.
Flomaton, which owns two wins over the Tigers including Friday's 58-46 triumph, is ranked seventh in Class 2A with a 14-2 record. T.R. Miller still has a third encounter with Flomaton on the road February 3.
The Tigers also have an upcoming game at home against Red Level on January 31. Red Level is currently ranked sixth in Class 2A with a 9-2 slate.
