Apparently both the Brewton Middle School Lady Tigers and Tigers were not in any hurry to end their respective basketball seasons Thursday.
The Lady Tigers extended their season with an overtime session before they knocked off the host Monroeville Lady Tigers 26-24. Meanwhile the Tigers' season ended with an exciting but disappointing 52-45 double overtime loss to Monroeville.
In the girls game, Brewton (8-2) dug itself a first half hole and fell behind 18-10 by the midway point. The visiting Lady Tigers were able to work their way back into the game with their defense, as they allowed just six more points the rest of the way.
Brewton trimmed its deficit to 22-20 by the end of the third quarter and pulled even at 24-24 at the end of regulation. A basket by Kesha Peterson provided Brewton its margin of victory in overtime.
Brittany Watson led Brewton with 12 points, while Taylor Chambers and Peterson both had four.
The boys game followed a similar pattern except in reverse. This time it was Brewton that jumped out to the lead in the first half only to see Monroeville rally in the second half.
Brewton seemed to be in control at half-time with a 25-14 lead, but Monroeville cut that gap to just 35-32 by the end of the third quarter. The host Tigers then caught Brewton with a 41-41 deadlock at the end of regulation.
Monroeville appeared to be on the verge of victory, as it had a 45-42 lead near the end of the first overtime. Instead a desperation three-pointer at the buzzer by Brewton's Corey Cunningham tied the game again at 45-45 and forced a second overtime.
It was all Monroeville in the second extra session, as the host Tigers outscored Brewton 7-0 to secure the win.
Cunningham and Will Waters both had 10 points to pace Brewton, while Donielle Smith added nine.
Brewton's boys finished up 7-3.
