James Taite

James Taite, 52, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004. He was a native of Kinston, N.Y. , a former resident of Buffalo, N.Y. and Medina, N.Y. and a resident of Brewton. He served as a minister and bus driver for 13 years. He and his family traveled preaching and singing. The family moved to Brewton in 1984 where he continued to drive a bus for CAP and founded Gateway to Heaven Church in 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Anne Taite of Brewton; four daughters, Yosminda Bassett, Devaki Bailey, Udricka Taite and Shirley Lett; his mother, Mable Taite of Cantonment, Fla.; three brothers, Narvel Taite of Macomb, Ill., Benjamin Taite of Pensacola, Fla. and Lawrence Taite of Stone Mountain, Ga.; five sisters, Ruby Salter of Long Beach, Calif., Cara Ree Jackson of Pensacola and Patricia Boykin, Gloria Donald and Barbara Hill, all of Cantonment; four grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. at Greater Glory New Testament Church of Deliverance of Flomaton with Pastor Nancy Cottrell officiating. Burial followed at Williams Cemetery in Cantonment with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
