Mr. Jack W. Hines Sr., 83, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004 in a local nursing facility after an extended illness. He was a native of LaFayette, Ala. and a resident of Brewton since 1946. He was a member of Brewton First United Methodist Church, a U.S. Army captain who served in World War II and a graduate of the University of Alabama. He was the founder of Hines Realty Company in 1948, Escambia Insurance Agency and former chairman of the Board of the Bank of Brewton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elinor Brooks Hines and two sons, Leon Brooks Hines and Alexander Bolling Hines.
He is survived by a son, Jack W. Hines Jr. of Brewton; a daughter, Lillis Christan Hines of Montclair, N.J.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. at Brewton First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Daniel and Dr. Lawson Bryan officiating. Burial followed at Union Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brewton First United Methodist Church.
