The Brewton Police Department is investigating a robbery that took place Sunday, Jan. 25 when a Pizza Pro delivery man was robbed while making a delivery to 609 Rogers Street.
Ben Whitfield received a call from that address and, upon arrival, was confronted by two black males who drew a gun and demanded his money and the pizza.
They also took a cell phone before running off.
Chief David Lovelace reports that they have leads and expect to make an arrest soon with a charge of robbery, first degree.
In other news, approximately 7:23 p.m., Jan. 31, Officer Jeremy Douglas stopped a white Ford Explorer on Douglas Avenue after observing the vehicle crossing the center line three times.
The vehicle was traveling south on Douglas. Arrested was Harold B. Abrams, 51, of 504 Castle Brook Drive, Montgomery.
He was charged with DUI; possession of marijuana, first degree; possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on the wrong side of the road.
This case was turned over to the Drug Task Force.
Later, a routine traffic stop for an expired tag on Sowell Road and Pine Street ended up in drug charges.
At approximately 1:39 a.m. Feb. 1, Officer Jeremy Douglas stopped a white Mitsubishi and after a full investigation two arrests were made.
The driver was identified as Olivia Monique Bell, 22, of 1137 Kerlin Avenue, Brewton.
She was charged with driving while her license was suspended; possession of marijuana, first degree (packaged for sale); unlawful possession of a controlled substance; possession of drug paraphenalia and expired tag.
Tammy L. Elliott, 28, 231 Washington Circle, Brewton was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
The vehicle was towed by Jim Peach Motors.
Both of the above subjects were transported to the Escambia County Detention Center, and the cases have been turned over to the Drug Task Force.
Still later, at approximately 2:26 a.m. on Feb. 2, Officer Jim Blackmon observed a maroon Chevrolet Celebrity driving at a high rate of speed, traveling north on Sowell Road and turning east on Granberry, running a four way stop sign.
Officer Blackmon stopped the vehicle on Granberry and at that time two black males jumped out of the vehicle and ran into a wooded area, leaving the vehicle running in the roadway.
The vehicle was registered to Nellie Madden of 404 Victory Street, East Brewton.
A small amount of marijuana was found on the front seat and a cable receiver box was found in the back seat.
Police seized the evidence and the vehicle was taken to impound by Jim Rapp Towing Service.
This case is still under investigation.
Chief Lovelace believes that the beefed up traffic stops are helping stop more than traffic violations.
