Lieutenant Governor Lucy Baxley announced today that Alabama will receive over $1,000,000 in federal assistance to help low income citizens with heating and air conditioning costs.
This past summer, Governor Baxley sponsored a resolution at the National Lieutenant Governors Conference, urging that organization to lobby the U.S. Health and Human Services Department to release funds to the states to help low income families with rising energy bills.
Due largely to intense pressure from Lieutenant Governors and others around the nation, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services responded this month with grants to the various states. Families can apply for this assistance through their designated local community action agency.
