Qualifying dates set for local elections

The Escambia County Democratic Executive Committee has set qualifying dates and qualifying fees for county offices that are up for election this year. There are four county offices which will be on the ballot this year: County Commission Districts two and four and School Board Districts four and six. The dates for qualifying are March 8 at 8 a.m. through March 24 at 4 p.m. The qualifying fee for the County Commission is $500 and the qualifying fee for the County School Board is $150. Qualifying forms and fees must be filed and paid within the dates set forth above with the chairman of the Escambia County Democratic Executive Committee, Reo Kirkland Jr. in Brewton.
Local state offices that are up for election this year include Circuit Judge, District Judge and District Attorney. These candidates must qualify with the State Democratic Executive Committee.
All candidates, for county or state office, must also comply with the Fair Campaign Practices Act and the Ethics Commission Laws of the State of Alabama. Any person who wants to qualify for county or state office in the Democratic primary who has any questions about the qualify process may call the county party chairman at 867-5711 or the state party at 1-800-995-3386.
The deadline for qualifying for state office is April 2 at 5 p.m. and March 24 at 4 p.m. for county office. The Democratic primary election will be held on Tuesday, June 1.
