All Children Together, a charitable group in Brewton, has been working for two years now to bring Kid One Transport to the Brewton area.
Kid One is a program based in Brewton that provides transportation for children whose parents are unable to get them to the doctor.
Dr. Marsha Raulerson approached the group about taking on this project about two years ago and together they have since raised about $25,000 of the $45,000 needed to make the program available to Escambia County.
Mercedes is affiliated with Kid One and would donate a car to the county, but first All Children Together must meet the $45,000 goal to cover other costs.
The group has received donations and commitments from civic organizations, church groups, United Fund and Brewton Medical Center, among others.
With Kid One transportation, children in the county could be taken for medical or dental care with only a call to the Birmingham office to arrange transport, or mothers of newborns in ICU would have transportation to the hospital several times per week, Raulerson said.
All Children Together is made up of five women -- Waldrep, Mitzi Whittell, Jojo Horton, Becky Jordan and Margaret Cotten -- who got together to work on projects and raise money to benefit the children of this area.
