The Brewton Police Department made an arrest in a burglary that occurred this past weekend at Nalty's Dog Yard where approximately $15,000 worth of merchandise was taken.
The arrest was made Monday when Jonathan Phillip Gantt and Robert Teal Allen, both 18-year-old white males, were taken into custody at their residence at 213 Dawson Street in Alco.
They were both charged with burglary, third degree and the stolen merchandise was recovered.
According to Chief David Lovelace, the problem of burglaries and other crimes has been on the increase.
Also, Chief Lovelace would like the public to know that the police department has free gun locks available to keep guns safe from children in the home.
Lovelace says that anyone who would like one of the locks should come by the police department and pick one up.
There is no cost for the locks
With the warmer weather, more children are taking advantage of the outdoors and Chief Lovelace wants to remind adults that they will be held responsible if their children disobey the rules.
Scooters and go-carts are not allowed on the streets and children should wear protection when they ride off the street.
All vehicles allowed on the streets have to be licensed and tagged.
