The Brewton City Council moved last night to support Librarian Brook Walker's suggestion to hang a banner to welcome a noted author who'll be visiting the city this month.
Kathryn Tucker Windham, the author of "13 Alabama Ghosts and Jeffrey," will be in Brewton March 20 to participate in activities at the library.
Windham, well-known for collecting Southern folklore, is also a respected storyteller and journalist.
Walker thought that a banner welcoming Windham to the city was appropriate, given the author's stature, and the council took up her suggestion.
Also, the council issued a proclamation declaring March 8 through March 12 as Girl Scouts Week in the city, and congratulating the Girl Scouts of the Deep South Council on the good work it does.
March 12 is the 92nd anniversary of The Girl Scouts of America.
Councilman Mervin Huff announced at the meeting that Earth Day would be held April 24 in Brewton, and said that he would have more details on activities ready at the next council meeting.
