Mr. Jack Anderson Akins, 75, died Friday, March 12, 2004 in Booneville. He was a native of Booneville, a former resident of Brewton and a resident of Booneville for most of his life. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, retired from Whiting Field with Civil Service, attended the Christian Church and coached at W.S. Neal, Sparta Academy, Greenville High School, Escambia County High School, J.U. Blacksher High School and South Montgomery High School. He made All Star Coach of the Year a number of times and had coached for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Akins Zelm.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Marie Johnson Akins of Booneville; two sons, Harry Dero Atkins of Goodway and Jack Anderson Akins Jr. of Booneville; a daughter, Suzanne Atkins of Booneville; four brothers, Clarence Akins of Gulf Shores, Leon Atkins of Daphne, Paul Akins and Bruce Akins, both of Booneville; a sister, Peggy Akins Helton of Milton, Fla.; three grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Graveside services were held Sunday, March 14 at 3 p.m. at Lindsey Cemetery with Bro. William Beech and Bro. Berteran "Pete" Coon officiating and Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing.
