Quantity has never been much of a strength for the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers track team.
T.R. Miller hs usually more than offset quantity with quality. That was especially eveident last year. The squad had just 10 members, but five of those qualified for the Class 3A state meet. That combination produced a third place team finish.
"We've usually been pretty strong in our sprints and sprint relays. Those will probably be our strengths again this year," T.R. Miller coach Alan Baker said.
Baker has even fewer options than he did last year, as only seven members are on the squad.
"There may be some events where we can't enter anybody just because of numbers, but we should be pretty good in the ones we do enter," Bakers said.
Sophomore Joy McCorvey earned a second place finish in the 100 meter dash and a third place mark in last year's state meet.
"We'll also use Joy in our 400 relay, the triple jump and high jump," Baker said.
Junior Keonshaye Lane was fifth at the state last year in the high jump and eighth in the 400 meter dash.
"We'll also use Keonshaye in the long jump, our 400 and 1600 meter relays," Bakers said.
Sophomore Jasmine Sanford will see time in the 200 meter dash, 400 relay and the long, high and triple jumps.
Sophomore Krystle Smith is a newcomer to track.
"We're probably looking at working Krystle into our sprints," Baker said.
Jolesia Likely, a sophomore, is targeted for the long and high jump.

will contribute to the throwing events of shot put and discus. Eighth grader Crystal Higdon will handle the distance races of 800, 1600 and 3200 meters.
"Most of these girls played basketball and are a little behind. In fact, we gave them last week off just to recover a bit. Hopefully we'll get quite a few of them to state and then we'll take our chances," Baker said.
