Mr. Arthur Grissett, 82, died Friday, March 12, 2004 in a local hospital. He was a native of Monroe County and a resident of Atmore for many years. He was a member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church of Atmore, a member of Good Hope Lodge 152, had worked as a cement finisher and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cora Nettles; his brother, John Grissett and two daughters, Helen Dorsett and Teresa Freeman.
He is survived by seven daughters, Barbara Dailey, Nancy Thicklin, Lori Rice, all of Atmore, Sherry Dale, Carolyn Dale, Quay Fields of Detroit, Mich. and Sandy Cook of Cleveland, Ohio; four sons, Albert Grissett of Florida, David Grissett of Orlando, Fla., Oscar McCarthy of Atmore and Orlando Dale of Detroit, Mich.; one adopted son, Darrion Hixon of the U.S. Air Force; two brothers, Calvin Grissett of Jacksonville, Fla. and Willie Grissett of Atmore; two sisters, Helen Askew and Margie McPherson, both of Atmore; 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 20, at 11 a.m. at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Sanders Edwards officiating. Burial followed at Stallworth Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel directing.
