Each year for the last four years we have sent the local schools in our area information regarding the Alabama Youth Leadership Institute, which is held at the University of Montevallo each June. The purpose of this letter is two-fold. First to get the information out directly to the public, and secondly to give the opportunity for donations for a partial scholarship for youth to go. The cost is $125 each, which would cover all costs. The dates are Monday through Thursday, June 14-17.
Volunteers ages 14 through 18 are eligible to attend. This is a leadership meeting with the chosen youth staying on campus, and is coordinated by Red Cross youth from all over the state. Youth decide on the theme, youth carry out the planning and coordination of the meeting. Three out of the four years we have had someone attending in some capacity, either as a delegate or older youth worker.
The purpose of the institute is to support Red Cross goals for youth involvement and youth leadership, which in turn supports local efforts to involve youth volunteers as a vital human resource to help meet the Red Cross mission. Perhaps volunteering when there is a fire or other disaster appeals to you. Public speaking, presentations for informational purposes, fund raising and other opportunities for volunteers of any age are available.
Youth volunteers are not limited to only youth. We need adult volunteers too. Adults can be trained to work with youth during this time.
For further information please check with your respective counselor at school or call the Chapter office at 867-3426. Or come by for a visit at the new office location, which is across the street from Auto Zone.
