In many ways it was the best the W.S. Neal Lady Blue Eagles tennis team had played this season and it nearly produced their best result of the season, a win.
W.S. Neal battled visiting Opp even through singles play, as the teams divided the six matches. Number three Kara Scurlock, number five Maggie Crutchfield and number six Christina Beckwith all produced victories.
Scurlock and Maggie Crutchfield netted their second win of the day in number two doubles, but Opp won the other two matches in that division for a 5-4 win.
"The girls really played well. It was probably the best they have played this season," W.S. Neal coach Kraig Rittenhouse said.
The opposing Bobcats cruised to a 7-2 win in boys competition. The Blue Eagles got a victory in number five singles from James Kitchens and a triumph in number three doubles courtesy of Kitchens and John Bordayo.
"As a whole, the boys also played pretty well. Perhaps the best match of the day came in number two singles where Kris Andrews dropped a three-hour, three set match (to Brandon Reed). That came after Kris played nine holes of golf earlier in the afternoon," Rittenhosue said.
W.S. Neal's next action is today when it travels to Greenville for a 4 p.m. match.
