The opportunity to see some of Brewton's most beautiful homes drew people from throughout the region last week, as "Art and Architecture, Brewton's Spring Tour of Homes" welcomed scores of visitors.
While here, visitors ventured into some of Brewton most picturesque structures, and also got a chance to see much of what the greater community has to offer.
"They loved Brewton, and so many said that they would be back," said Rosemary Jernigan, Jefferson Davis Community College (JDCC) Foundation board member.
The tour of homes was held to raise money for future JDCC scholarships. Last week's Tour raised $16,840, Jernigan said, which leaves $13,840 after taking care of $3,000 worth of expenses.
In all, 241 tickets to the Tour were sold. Visitors came from Dothan, Panama City, Ono Island, Mobile, Eastern Shore, Evergreen, Atmore, Pensacola and Montgomery, as well as several other places.
While here, they not only saw Brewton, but also spent time downtown shopping.
"The merchants had a great day," Jernigan said.
The event was promoted through various forms of media in the days and weeks leading up to it, including being featured in the Southern Living Calendar of Events. Many of last week's visitors came as part of tour groups that were organized in their home towns specifically to attend the Tour of Homes.
The Tour featured the homes of Joe and Carol Gordy, Phillipa Hamilton, Jerry and Naomi Kelly and Richard and Carol Miller, all of which are located along historic Belleville Avenue. Cornerstone Community Church and the Bank of Brewton were also featured.
Corporate sponsors for Art and Architecture included BankTrust, Cedar Creek Land and Timber, T.R. Miller Mill Company, First Progressive Bank and Natural Decorations, Inc. Patrons included Heffernan Holland Morgan Architecture, Suzanne Kirby and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Weaver.
