With junior pitcher Halie Ellis sidelined indefinitely with a hand injury, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers softball team needs somebody to step up.
The performance senior Rebekah Neal turned in Thursday probably qualifies. Neal moved to the mound where she threw a five-hit shutout and added a single, two doubles and an RBI at the plate in T.R. Miller's 10-0 six-inning win over visiting J.U. Blacksher.
The Lady Tigers (7-4) took advantage of seven errors by the Lady Bulldogs to inflict most of their damage.
J.U. Blacksher made three errors in the second inning when the Lady Tigers scored their first three runs and two miscues in the third inning when T.R. Milele boosted its lead to 5-0.
Singles by Terri Lynne Peacock and Charity Coleman set up an RBI single by Taelor Robinson in a three-run fifth inning that made it 8-0.
T.R. Miller closed things out in the sixth inning. Jamie Peacock was hit by a pitch, Neal belted an RBI two-bagger, Haley Gibson was hit by a pitch and Lacey Lucas hit an RBI fielder's choice.
The Lady Tigers pulled out a stunning and thrilling 4-3 win over Flomaton Lady Hurricanes Tuesday at the Brewton YMCA Park.
T.R. Miller was down 3-0 and had just three hits through the first five innings against Flomaton pitcher Jessica Morris.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, T.R. Miller got to Morris with four decisive runs.
Halie Ellis led off the frame with a double and Leigh Cooper battled Morris for a walk. Even though it was not the hit that tied the game or put the Lady Tigers, a two-run triple by centerfielder Jamie Peacock may have been the biggest blow of the game.
Jamie Peacock's three-bagger cut Flomaton's lead to just 3-2. Peacock then scored on an infield groundout by Rebekah Neal that pulled T.R. Miller even at 3-3.
With two out in the inning, Leslie Nalty got the Lady Tigers' offense going again with a single. Nalty got herself into scoring position when she stole second base.

pop-up down the leftfield line. Flomaton shortstop Tiffany Cayson covered a lot of territory to get the ball, but the ball squirted out of Cayson's glove, fell to the ground and Nalty scored the go-ahead run.
Ellis worked the first six innings on the mound, but she injured her hand on a slide into second base with her sixth inning double. Neal then took to the hill and closed the door with a one-two-three seventh inning.
