Mrs. Henrietta Till Lewis, died Sunday, April 11, 2004 at a local nursing center. She was a graduate of Auburn University and The University of Alabama. She retired from the Selma City School System where she taught school for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she served in the nursery for more than 20 years. She was also a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, DAR and Delta Kappa Gamma.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Larry Ferman Lewis of Selma; a son, David William Lewis of Prattville; a daughter, Catherine Lewis Thomas of Selma; a brother, William Paul Till, Jr. of Birmingham and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 13, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Selma with Dr. Jerry Gunnells, Rev. Lee Tate and Dr. David Thomas officiating. Burial followed at New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing. Active pallbearers were Harold Speir, James Hines, Forrest Hatfield, Jamie Wallace, Dr. Wes Acee and Randy Smith. Honorary pallbearers were AGAPE Sunday School Class, Maverick Sunday School Class, Elton McGaha, Dr. Nick Knight, Dr. Julian Howell, Dr. Jerry Dillard, Frank Bolen, Bruce Peake, Alex Cooper, Gerald Anderson and Dr. David Thomas.
