Leslie Presley was not perfect, but the Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawks pitcher faced only the minimum in her team's 8-0 win in game two of Saturday's doubleheader at Chatt Valley.
That win helped the Lady Warhawks come away with a split of the day's play, as Chatt Valley won the opener 3-1. The win was also JDCC's first in four tries against Chatt Valley this season.
Presley settled for a two-hit shutout. Both runners that reached against her were thrown out stealing.
The mound was not the only place where Presley came up big. She had probably the biggest blow of the game in the top of the first inning with a three-run double.
The Lady Warhawks got their other five runs in the third inning. Missy Gamewell had the key hit of that frame, a two-run single. Chatt Valley had two critical errors in that inning.
Gamewell and Laura Hoyes both had two hits to pace the Lady Warhawks, while Katie Lambert and Presley both had one.
In game one, the Lady Warhawks took a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning through singles by Nichole Young and Lambert.
As it turned out, JDCC had only two additional hits, both by Laura Hoyes.
Meanwhile Chatt Valley used four singles and a wild pitch against Presley to string together three decisive runs in the third innings.
The Lady Warhawks (17-32 overall and 8-8 in the Alabama College Community Conference) will close out the home portion of their schedule today with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Enterprise.
