A quick start and strong finish propelled the T.R. Miller Tigers to a 6-2 road win over the Jay (Fla.) Royals Tueday.
As it turned out, the Tigers got all the offense they needed with a three-run first inning.
Singles by Jacob Salter and Joseph Turner set up a sacrifice fly by Brad Lannom and a two-run homer by Trent Davidson quickly made it 3-0.
It stayed that way all the way until the sixth inning when T.R. Miller put another three spot on the scoreboard. that doubled its cushion to 6-0.
Ironically it was pretty much the same combination that did the damage. Salter and Turner both singled and Lannom walked to load the bases. Davidson came through with his second key hit of the game, a two-run single. After Jordan Ball walked, Ryan Holland hit a sacrifice fly to get the sixth run across the plate.
Meanwhile on the mound the combination of starter Lannom and reliever Patrick Sorrells blanked the Royals on just two hits for six innings. Lannom went the first three and Sorrells the next three. Both allowed just one hit.
Davidson went to the mound in the seventh inning to close things out, but an outfield error after a single and double enabled Jay to score a pair of runs and break up the shutout.
