They may not have been big in numbers, but the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers who competed were big in performance.
T.R. Miller only had six girls contribute points, but those six powered the Lady Tigers to a Class 3A Sectional championship on their home turf Thursday.
In fact, the Lady Tigers accomplished their crown by a fairly decisive margin. T.R. Miller had 124 points, 37 more than runner-up Montgomery Academy's total of 87.
W.S. Neal turned in a competitive performance. The Lady Blue Eagles were second most of the meet before they settled for a fourth place spot and 62 total points.
T.R. Miller's biggest strength at the sectional was its sprints. The Lady Tigers went one-two in the 100 meter dash, one-two in the 200 meter dash and first in the 400 meter relay.
Those individual one-two marks were turned in by sophomores Joy McCorvey and Jasmine Sanford. McCorvey went 12.23 to take the 100 and 25.59 for the top spot in the 200. Sanford had respective runner-up times of 12.39 and 26.4.
McCorvey, Sanford, Keonshaye Lane and Aja McConnico turned in a strong time of 51.03 to take the 400 meter relay. If that was not enough, the same quartet also won the 1600 meter relay at 4:32.11.
"Our sprinters really had some great times. If they can perform like that at the state meet, they should do very well," T.R. Miller coach Alan Baker said.

sprints. They got three wins in the field where Sanford claimed the long jump at 34-8, Lane took the high jump at 4-6 and Megan Fountain prevailed in the javelin at 61-9.
W.S. Neal's lone victory came in the discus where Abbie Howard unleashed a throw of 86-5.
The girls state meet will be held Friday and Saturday at Troy State University.
