Anyone planning to vote in the June 1 primary election must be registered by May 21, according to Evelyn Elliott with the Escambia County Board of Registrars.
To register to vote or change districts because of a recent move, visit the Board of Registrars office at the Escambia County Courthouse.
Many who think they are registered may still need to contact the Board of Registrars because of a new state requirement to purge voter lists. Anyone who has not voted in four years will have been removed from the registry.
To double check the status of your voter registration or district, contact the Board of Registrars at 867-0243. While registration or changes must be made in person at the Courthouse, information on your status as a voter can be obtained by phone.
Another deadline to keep in mind for the upcoming primary is the deadline for voting by absentee ballot.
Applications for absentee ballots must be received by May 27 and the actual ballots must be postmarked by May 28.
To apply for an absentee ballot, visit the Escambia County Circuit Clerk's office at the Courthouse, or call 867-0287 to request an application by mail. Applicants must know what district they vote in and must provide an approved form of identification, such as a driver's license, utility bill with voter's name and address or a government issued form of identification.
The Circuit Clerk's office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, except during lunch.
