Sunday, May 9 at about 7 p.m. a traffic accident between a 1992 Jeep and a 1997 Yamaha all-terrain vehicle (ATV) occurred on County Road 22.
Deborah Butts, the driver of the Jeep, was not injured, but David Kent of East Brewton, driver of the ATV, was injured, according to a report from Alabama State Troopers.
According to Escambia County Sheriff Grover Smith, ATVs should only be driven on private property with the property owner's permission, and it is illegal to operate an ATV on any public road or right of way.
Anyone caught operating an ATV on a public road or right of way may be issued a citation or warning, and the ATV is subject to towing. Smith said the Sheriff's Office has arrested several people for driving ATVs on highways.
