Beginning in June, the City of Brewton will be replacing water mains and service lines on Belleville Avenue from Sowell Street to Underwood Street.
As discussed at the Brewton City Council's meeting last Tuesday, this and some other water line work will be done in-house by the City's Utilities Department.
Though a total cost for the work has not been determined yet, city clerk John Angel said it will be less expensive for the city to do the work itself than to have it bid out.
The project will also include moving the main water line from under the highway to under the right of way, which may mean tearing up some sections of sidewalk, said utilities superintendent Ray Madden.
Work won't begin until June because that's when the utilities department expects delivery of a new directional boring machine that was purchased recently. Madden said that pipe for the project was ordered several weeks ago and is already being delivered.
In addition to the work on Belleville, the City will be replacing water mains, updating fire plugs and killing old lines on Bonita Avenue and Escambia Avenue, Madden said.
