Brewton Little League made it four-for-four at the City Tournament quarterfinals Monday, as both the Reds and Royals notched victories at the Age 11-12 level.
The Reds cruised past the East Brewton Yankees 9-1, while the Royals shut down the East Brewton Dodgers 4-1.
Semifinal action continued Tuesday, as the Reds met the top-seeded Indians, while the Royals hooked up with the second-seeded East Brewton Cardinals. Both the Indians and Cardinals had quarterfinal byes.
The championship game will be Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Reds (B) 9, Yankees (EB) 1
The Reds got a combined one-hitter from starting pitcher Robert Knowles and reliever Jon Jones. Both struck out five in three innings of work.
A three-run uprising in the top of the first inning gave the Reds all the offense they needed. Knowles helped his own cause in that rally with an RBI single. Abe Hildreth drew a bases loaded walk and a third run scored on a wild pitch.
The Yankees got their lone run in the bottom of the first inning, as a walk to Steven Frazier and a single by Gary McGraw set up an RBI groundout by Dylan Smith.
The Reds stretched their advanatge to 7-1 with four more runs in the second inning courtesy of a two-run double by Nick Etheridge and a rare two-run groundout by Cameron Knowles.
Two more runs, both unearned, in the fifth inning accounted for the Reds final margin of victory.
Royals (B) 4, Dodgers (EB) 1
Brewton Royals hurler Paul Busby won a good mound matchup with Dodgers pitcher Paul Miller.
Miller allowed only three hits, but Busby responded with a one-hitter and 10 strikeouts to lead his team to win. Ironically Miller had the lone hit off Busby.
The Royals scratched out single runs in the first, third and fourth innings to take a 3-0 lead.
Stephen Busby had an RBI groundout in the opening frame, Ryland Dixon scored on a single by Corey Rilling in the third inning and Warren's RBI single plated Busby in the fourth.
The Dodgers broke up Busby's shutout in the top of the fifth inning when Jeffrey McCain walked and eventually scored on a groundout by Chris Meier to make it 3-1.
The Royals got that run back in the bottom half of the fifth when walks to James Matthews and Devlin Crosby set up an RBI groundout by Austin Collins.
