The Brewton City School Board held a special meeting Friday, May 28, to vote on the replacement of Brewton Elementary's exterior doors.
The board voted to have Best Glass Co. Inc. do the work for $46,975.
According to Superintendent Lynn Smith, because the work is related to permanent parts of the building and costs less than $50,000, the project was not subject to a formal bid.
Smith said that most of the school's exterior doors have been in place since 1976, and the door frames sag and hardware is worn out. The new doors will include door-length hinges.
The board held this special meeting so that Best Glass can order materials and get started on the project in early July.
The board also scheduled a personnel hearing for June 9. Its next regular meeting is June 14.
