Our T.R. Miller Girls Softball team recently completed a great season. Their trip to the state tournament was a great accomplishment and was a result of their unselfish teamwork.
Athletics is not always about winning championships. Often it is about having the courage to accept a challenge and the willingness to work with others in achieving a common goal. This brings about a respect among the members of the team that is genuine. It also builds our self image and gives us the confidence that we can achieve other things in life. To me, this is the true essence of high school athletics.
I would like to offer thanks to the parents of our players; to Paul Smith, Cop Walker and Terril Neal, for their assistance with our team. During the area tournament which was played at the YMCA, we got a great deal of rain in the 24 hours leading up to the start of the tournament. Randy Salter and his grounds crew did an amazing job to get the fields ready. They went above and beyond the call of duty to allow the girls to play.
Keith Miller, who is responsible for the YMCA park complex, always has the part in first class shape.
Finally, a special thanks to Dan Shaddock and the YMCA. Along with Randy Salter, they did everything possible to give our softball team a chance to succeed.
