Billy takes race for DA's office

With 76.74 percent of the votes, Steve Billy took the race for Escambia County District Attorney in yesterday's primary. Billy drew 3,607 votes, and opponent Danny White had 1,093.
Countywide, 5,212 votes were cast yesterday, with 4,764 of those from Democratic voters, 448 Republican and 131 non-partisan.
In the race for Escambia County Board of Education District 6, Cereal Daniel topped Randal Barnett and Jimmy Dean with 50.49 percent of the vote.
Of 915 votes cast in that district, Daniel took 462, with Barnett at 214 (23.39 percent) and Dean at 239 (26.12 percent).
Escambia County Commission District 4 was also up for vote yesterday, but that race will have to be decided later this month in a run off.
William H. Brown had 38.99 percent of the vote (416 votes) and opponent James "Junior" Hall had 34.40 percent (367 votes). Those two candidates will meet again in the run off.
Also a candidate for that County Commission seat, Joey Kelley drew 26.62 percent of votes.
Wayne Butts, custodian of voting machines for the county, commented that there were no voting problems yesterday, aside from some flooding at the Pineview polling place.
