Blueberry Orange Onion Salad may be among the most unusual recipes in the Greater Brewton Chamber of Commerce's 2004 Blueberry Cookbook, but there are sure to be plenty of old favorites inside as well.
Preparation for the cookbook begins in February when the Chamber requests blueberry recipes from all over this area and north Florida.
"We send news releases to the newspapers and radio stations asking for recipes and we usually get a pretty good response," said Brande Agerton, who puts the cookbook together for the Chamber.
At about 40 pages, this year's cookbook includes recipes for cakes, cookies, cobblers and pies and some specialty items like blueberry syrup and blueberry margaritas.
The Chamber expects to sell about 200 Blueberry Cookbooks this year.
"We sell quite a few before the (Blueberry) Festival. We also do quite well at the Festival," Agerton said.
Cookbooks are $5 if purchased at the Chamber of Commerce office or at the Blueberry Festival and $7 if ordered by mail. Revenue from sale of the books goes only to cover printing costs, Agerton said.
The 24th annual Blueberry Festival will be Saturday, June 19 at Jefferson Davis Community College.
