Six Jefferson Davis Community College athletes have received postseason honors for their spring sports competition.
In softball, sophomore second baseman Katie Lambert (Escambia County) was selected to both the All-Region 22 and Alabama Community College Conference Team.
Lambert hit .372 (57-for-153) with a team high 13 doubles, four homers and 35 RBIs. She also had a .933 fielding average.
"Our second base position was up for grabs going into this season, but Katie quickly moved into that spot and never let go," Lady Warhawks coach Misti Nims said. "Katie was hurt as a freshman and had to have surgery, but she came back in a big way. In a lot of ways, she was probably our most consistent player."
Freshman centerfielder Nichole Young (Crestview, Fla.) was an All-ACCC selection.
Young hit a team high .391 (63-for-161) with three doubles, three triples and 15 RBIs. She led JDCC in batting average, hits and stolen bases with 20.
"Katie was our only player who started every game this season. She didn't hit with a lot of power, but that wasn't her job. Her job was to make contact and use her speed when she got on base. She handled centerfield very well for us. As the season went along, she became more and more aggressive," Nims said.
In baseball, two JDCC Warhawks received All-ACCC First Team honors while two more were selected for Second Team.
Freshman Brent Childress (Atlanta, Ga.) was named to the First Team as a designated hitter. Childress hit .430 and belted eight homers.
Sophomore Dustin Blakely (Crestview, Fla.) was named to the First Team as a relief pitcher. The righthander had a 4-4 record and saved 10 games.
Sophomore first baseman Chris Good (Pensacola, Fla.) was a Second Team selection, as he hit .360 with six homers.
Freshman John Ryan Steele (Logan, W.V.) also received Second Team honors. Steele had a 6-2 record.
"They all had good seasons and were very deserving of their honors," JDCC coach Jim Morrill said.h inning for a save.
