Man arrested for May shooting

Brewton Police Department had some recent activities to report this week.
In a case which occurred May 3, 2004, police responded to a call to East Jackson Street and May Street at approximately 2:30 a.m. where they found a black male in the middle of the street. The victim had been shot in the jaw, had a crushed chin, a bash on the back of the head and many cuts and scratches. He was identified as Willie Conner, 38, of 528 Franklin Avenue. He was transferred to D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.
Following several leads, the Brewton Police Department was able to make an arrest. Gainie Andre "Gainie" Spears, 38, a black male of 307 East Jackson Street was charged with attempted murder. Sgt. Henry Samuels and Officer Thomas Agerton responded to the initial call and an investigation follow up was conducted by Sgt. Eric Suarez and Sgt. Russell Martin. According to Police Chief David Lovelace there were more warrants issued in this case.
In another case, on June 4 at approximately 5:38 a.m. Brewton Police Department personnel responded to a call at Days Inn, 643 South Blvd.
A 2004 Honda four-wheeler, yellow in color and valued at $7,200 had been taken off a trailer.
Following several leads the police recovered the vehicle at approximately 11:30 a.m. at the end of East Street in a wooded area. No arrests have been made but several leads are being followed and they expect to make an arrest soon.
