The committee charged with setting guidelines for the use of Burnt Corn Creek Park to stage fundraising carnivals has again pushed back presentation of any new rules.
Councilman Dennis Dunaway, a member of the committee, said during last night's city council meeting that before new carnival rules can be set, a separate committee needs to look into the future of the park itself.
The recent construction of sidewalks through the area has somewhat changed the face of the park.
Also last night, Mayor Ted Jennings announced that a study being conducted by the state on the feasability of a truck route to I-65 has shifted focus. Originally set to look at Hwy. 31 as a possible truck route, the study will now focus on Hwy. 41.
Expanding 41 for use as a truck route would less expensive, Jennings said.
Jennings, along with Councilmen Cary Barton, Marvin Lewis and Dunaway, recently attended the Alabama League Convention in Birmingham, and all reported that it was educational and helpful. Workshops at the convention covered topics such as retaining good police officers and conducting municipal elections.
Dunaway mentioned a workshop he attended on preparing for the mental health needs of the aging baby boomer generation, saying that Brewton should take heed.
