Task Force nabs Brewton man for drugs

On Monday, June 7, 2004, at approximately 12:30 p.m., agents with the 21st Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force, Investigator Jeff Beasley with the Alabama ICE Initiative, along with deputies from the Escambia County Sheriff's Department, did a search of Douglas Evans Jr.'s home located at 475 Old Foshee Road in Brewton.
Agents recovered crystal methamphetamines, marijuana that was packaged to sell, prescription medications, drug paraphernalia that was used to smoke illegal narcotics and scales that were used to weigh illegal narcotics. Also recovered were 35 firearms used in illegal narcotic operations.
The firearm information is being sent to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for tracing and possible connection to other criminal activity.
Douglas Sanford Evans Jr., 34, was arrested and charged with unlawful posession of a controlled substance -- crystal methamphetamines, unlawful possession of a controlled substance -- Lortab, unlawful possession of marijuana, first degree with intent to distribute and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Alabama ICE Initiative is a cooperation agreement between the U.S. Attorney's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
The 21st Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force is comprised of the following law enforcement agencies: Escambia County Sheriff's Department, Atmore Police Department, East Brewton Police Department, Brewton Police Department, Flomaton Police Department, Escambia County District Attorney's Office and the Escambia County Commission.
The Task Force receives 73 percent of its funding from a grant funded by the Bureau of Justice Affairs Division of the United States Department of Justice and which is administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. The remainder of the funding is provided by the Escambia County Sheriff's Department, Atmore Police Department, Brewton Police Department and the Escambia County District Attorney's Office.
