The Brewton Housing Authority has just completed its second phase of modernization since 1999, in an effort to improve its facilities, housing and the quality of service it can provide to residents.
This phase included renovation of the Housing Authority's office located on Washington Circle, the addition of a community room to provide space for resident gatherings and the complete modernization of 10 apartments at Bryant Circle.
The Housing Authority held an open house on Tuesday, where several community leaders -- including Mayor Ted Jennings, Escambia County Sheriff Grover Smith and Alabama State University Southern Normal's director Margaret Breland Bradley -- were introduced to its new facilities.
The first phase of improvements included completely modernizing 20 units at Bryant Circle.
In the next few weeks, Phase 3 will begin with the installation of central heat and air conditioning, windows and doors at the Washington Circle apartments.
All of these projects are paid for with capital funds from the federal government, Bradley said.
