The 16th Annual Blueberry Classic Golf Tournament was held Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at the Country Club of Brewton.
The event, arranged by the Country Club of Brewton Ladies Golf Association, began 16 years ago with a much smaller group of women participating.
This year there were 100 women who took part in the 18-hole scramble consisting of 50 teams competing to be the winners.
Judy Brown, president of the association and Mary Shirley, chairman, with the help of a committee of people, planned an afternoon of golf for those participating which they enjoyed despite the heat. Prizes were given in the form of gift certificates and door prizes donated by sponsors were given.
Each lady participating received a "Blueberry" designed berry bowl made by local pottery artist, Jim Gay.
The winners were Championship Flight, first place, Betty Douglas and Jackie Phillips, 64; second place, Kathy Neville and Sue Mahle, 65; third place, Tish Winn and Pam Seaborn, 66; First Flight, first place, Janet Haines and Janet Mardick, 73; second place, Cheryl Hoffman and Carolyn Whitman, 74; third place, Mary Shirley and Melanie Duvall, 75; Second Flight, first place, Wade Schmidt and Cecilia Walker, 73; second place, Wynene Youmans and Dean Morris, 74; third place, Stephanie Jones and Teresa Blackwell, 77; Third Flight, first place, Sherry Key and Dot Johnson, 73; second place, Johnnie Comby and Barbara Hudson, 79; third place, Diane Colvin and Angie Sanders, 79; Fourth Flight, first place, Carol Hower and Liz Frazier, 83; second place, Barbara Gates and Audrey McWaters, 83; third place, Jane Bouler and Betty Allen, 84; Fifth Flight, first place, Ellen Hayes and Joy Dasinger, 90; second place, Bobbie Fletcher and Dean Mullins, 91 and third place, Jan Long and Carolyn Hart, 92. Jackie Gay was the closest to the pin on 7 and Patsy Althauser was closest on 17. Stephanie Jones had the longest drive with a handicap 0-20 and Dot Johnson had the longest drive with a handicap of 21 and up.
