Ann Marie Sasser has announced her plans to qualify and run for the District 1 seat on the Brewton City Council.
Sasser cites the following reasons for wanting to serve on the council: a commitment to the education and welfare of Brewton's children, a desire to address the needs of the elderly and those who live in poverty, and a wish to seek intelligent and innovative solutions that concern the citizens of Brewton. She believes that the city council should be energetic and proactive in its approach to city government.
Sasser believes that Brewton has many untapped resources that can improve the quality of life for its diverse population and that can help Brewton grow.
Sasser is on the advisory committee for Brewton's Drug Court. She uses this program as an example of how innovative thinking can be used to address problems.
This, says Sasser, is what our city council should be about.
An educator for more than 30 years, Sasser worked as Brewton Middle School guidance counselor from 1981 to 2001. She currently teaches in Jefferson Davis Community College's Upward Bound program and performs psychometric testing for Brewton City Schools. She also helps students prepare for the Alabama High School Graduation Exam. She has published an instructional manual that many schools in the state use to help their students prepare for that test. Sasser and her husband Mike are members of Brewton First United Methodist Church where she coordinates the congregational food ministry and serves on both the Council on Ministries and on the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee.
