Saturday may have been melting hot, but the 24th Annual Blueberry Festival was a good reason to face the heat. Thousands of people from Brewton and beyond did brave the heat this weekend to check out the annual celebration, and the hard work that went into the Blueberry Festival made it worth it.
Judy Crane, Brande Agerton and others in cooperation with the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce start working early in the year to pull the Festival together by June, so that visitors can enjoy the food, entertainment, crafts and fun.
Besides providing a day of fun for those who visit the event, the Blueberry Festival is good for our community in several ways.
For the churches and civic groups that act as food vendors at the Festival, it's an important opportunity for fundraising. It is a venue for local artists and crafters to sell their creations to the public. Maybe most importantly, it promotes area blueberry growers and our community as a whole.
In the 24 years of the Blueberry Festival, Brewton has come to be known for its love of the summertime berries. This year's festival, like the many years before it, was a great success. It's sure to be a tradition that grows with Brewton for many more years.
The Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce and its supporters have earned our thanks again this year.
