Fireworks require extra care

According to the National Fire Protection Association, 8,500 people were treated in an emergency room for fireworks-related injuries.
While fireworks are prohibited with in the city limits of Brewton, many people in Escambia County will be celebrating the Fourth of July next weekend with some type of fireworks, and local authorities have some tips for using them.
Brewton Fire Chief Lawrence Weaver said, "The best advice I've got is attend fireworks displays put on by trained professionals, and stay back from the display at least 500 feet."
Weaver said that even sparklers can burn at 1200 degrees Fahrenheit, and fireworks are never a toy.
