Mr. Howard Lee Nix, 83, of Shoffner Street in East Brewton, died Thursday, July 1, 2004 at his residence after an extended illness. He was a native and former resident of Altoona, Ala. before moving to East Brewton in 1936. He was a retired mechanic and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of the Cedar Hill Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 79. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Nix and three granddaughters.
He is survived by his wife, Merle Hyde Nix of East Brewton; three sons, James Nix of Flomaton, Kenneth Nix of Brewton and Donald Ray Nix of Laurel, Miss.; a daughter, Vicky Turner of Laurel; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, July 3 at 10 a.m. at Weaver Cemetery on Appleton Road with Rev. Thomas White officiating and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
