Beginning yesterday, those who wish to qualify for Brewton's and East Brewton's local elections have until July 20 to submit themselves for candidacy.
In both cities, mayors and city council positions are up for election on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, with a run off -- if necessary -- on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004.
According to Brewton city clerk John Angel, those wishing to run for office in Brewton's municipal elections should come to the City of Brewton Municipal Complex to fill out Statement of Candidacy forms.
In order to qualify for City of Brewton elections, a candidate must have lived in the appropriate district for at least 90 days prior to the election.
There is no fee to qualify to run in City of Brewton elections.
To qualify to run for mayor or city council member in East Brewton, prospective candidates must fill out Statement of Candidacy forms, ethics forms (if not an incumbent) and Fair Campaign Act paperwork, said East Brewton city clerk Karen Singleton.
All positions are elected at large, and candidates must be registered voters and must have lived in the city for at least 90 days prior to the election. There is a $50 fee to qualify for candidacy in the City of East Brewton's elections.
