At its meeting on Thursday, July 22, the Escambia County Board of Education took a few moments to recognize employees of the school bus shops in Brewton and Atmore.
For the fourth year in a row, Superintendent Melvin Powell praised the hard work of Brewton bus shop employees Bill West, Billy Luttrell and Wes Dunn and Atmore bus shop employees Larry West, Anthony Mosley and Tony Boutwell.
Powell noted that the State of Alabama strives to have no more than 25 percent of school buses with major deficiencies, and currently only 6.4 percent of Escambia County school buses have major deficiencies.
Also at Thursday's meeting, the board approved a board policy regarding the use of video cameras on school buses.
The policy states that video cameras may be used "as a means to monitor and maintain a safe environment for students and employees."
The board also approved award of a CNP bid for 100 percent fruit juice slushy to U.S. Beverage, Inc. in the amount of $22,356.
The Escambia County School Board will hold budget hearings on Aug. 11 and 12 at 4 p.m. at the main office in Brewton. Their next regular meeting will be at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 12.
