Voters in East Brewton have some unfinished business when it comes to deciding who will lead the city through the next four years. That business will be settled this Tuesday, Sept. 14 when voters return to the polls.
Competing in the run-off to secure a place as East Brewton mayor are incumbent Terry Clark and Charles Fountain. Clark has served three terms as mayor, and Fountain served on the council for two terms in the 1970s.
For East Brewton Council Place 1, voters will decide between incumbent Huey Johnson and challenger Bob Arrant. If elected, this would be Johnson's fourth term on the council.
Council Place 2 candidates in the run-off are incumbent Kenny Hultz and Priscilla West. Finally, Council Place 5 will be decided between incumbent Bettie Jordan and Wayne Howard.
In city of Brewton municipal elections, the one council place left undecided is District 5, currently occupied by Mervin Huff. On Tuesday, Huff and opponent Henry Uptagrafft will meet in a run-off. For Huff, this would be his fifth term on the city council. Previously, Uptagrafft served two terms on the council and was mayor pro tem for four years.
District 5 residents can vote at the museum at Jefferson Davis Community College.
East Brewton votes are taken at the East Brewton Senior Citizens' Center. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
