Brewton mayor, council sworn in

The newly-sworn-in members of the Brewton City Council took a few moments Monday to reflect on the events of the past few weeks and to thank those who have worked to overcome the effects of Hurricane Ivan.
Jennings said the city is fortunate to have outstanding employees who went "far beyond what could be expected" to make things right after the storm.
Ann Marie Sasser, who was sworn in as Brewton's first female council member, praised the efforts of the American Red Cross.
She encouraged people to give back to the organization's disaster relief fund.
Councilman Cary Barton also encouraged people to help others.
Councilman Walter "Jake" Lewis said, "First I want to say thanks for all the help I had getting reelected. I will do my best to serve my district and the City of Brewton.
Newly-installed Councilman Henry Uptagrafft expressed his thanks to the voters who elected him.
Councilman Frank Cotton lightened the tone of the meeting when he said, "I want to thank no one for running against me."
Monday's meeting, in addition to being a swearing-in ceremony for the mayor and council, included a number of housekeeping duties required by law in the first council meeting of a term. The Council:
