Mr. Benny Royce White, 67, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at a local hospital. He was a former resident of Atmore and had resided in Jay since 1972. He was a scout leader for the Boy Scouts in Atmore. He was a former city councilman in Jay, former president of the Jay Band Boosters, member of the Jay Volunteer Fire Department, honorary alumnus of Jay High School, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked 34 years at Container Corporation of America. He was preceded in death by his father, McLeod White.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Shirley W. White of Jay; his mother, Bessie White of Atmore; sons, Joe White of Atmore, Rusty Wade of Flower Mound, Texas, and Bill Wade of St. Cloud, Fla.; daughters, Susan White of Atmore, Melissa Gorum of Lake Charles, La, and Mima Floyd of Jay; a brother, Clifford White of Atmore; sisters, Mary Frances Barber of Bay Minette, Mabeth Styron of Range and Alice Triplett of Purvis, Miss.; four grandchildren and a mother-in-law, Mary Wyatt of Jay.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home with Bro. Clifford Dixon officiating. Burial followed at the Community of Christ Church Cemetery in Dixonville with Jay Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were, Randy White, Keith White, Don Styron, Mark White, David White and Charles Walker. Honorary pallbearers were Brandon Sells, Chubby Locklin and Malcom Reed.
