Mrs. Mary Compton Byrd, 65, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, in a Montgomery medical facility after an extended illness. She was a native and longtime resident of Crenshaw County and a former resident of Albany, Ga., before moving to Brewton 35 years ago. She was a member of North Brewton Baptist Church and a retired manager from Jim Peach Ford Motor Company and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, George M. and Lillie Bell Stephens Compton; a brother, James Auston and a sister, Doris Pynes.
She is survived by a sister, Louise Wood of Grady, Ala., three nephews, three nieces and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m. at North Brewton Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael King officiating. Burial followed at Darien Cemetery in Luverne at 3:30 p.m. with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
