Conventional wisdom holds that houses don't sell in December.
But conventional wisdom isn't holding in Brewton.
In the 90 days since Hurricane Ivan hit this area, Hines Realty has sold between 30 and 35 houses, Jackson Hines said.
Hines said the housing activity is a combination of people moving into the community and local residents relocating.
Meanwhile, rental housing is full and in demand, both agreed.
On the construction side of the housing business, Hines said there's very little new construction happening right now. The high cost of building supplies, coupled with the demands for builders to repair both commercial and residential property, has all but halted the new housing market, he said.
