While Mary Montgomery led from start to finish, both Greenville and West Florida came from behind to notch first-round victories at Monday's T.R. Miller Holiday Tournament session.
The most stunning victory came from defending TRM Tournament champion Greenville. The Tigers (4-8) not only overcame a 17-point first-half deficit, but wound up blowing away Monroe County 86-66.
Down 27-10 early in the second qaurter, Greenville came alive with a 23-5 run to take a 33-32 halftime lead.
Rashad Knight, who led all scorers with 26 points, fueled that comeback with four first half three-pointers. He wound up with seven treys for the game.
Greenville ran its lead into double figures at 58-45 with a 25-13 scoring edge in the third quarter and then sealed its win with a 28-point fourth quarter.
In addition to Knight's 26, Greenville also got 16 from Garrison Walker and 14 from Curtis Fields. Isiah Mack chipped in 12, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter.
Monroe County, which fell to 6-6 on the season in its TRM Tournament debut, got 20 points from Anthony Stovull and 13 from Jerrell Richardson.
West Florida overcame a scoreless second quarter to beat Flomaton 55-47.
The Jaguars had a 13-11 lead after the first quarter before Flomaton blanked them 9-0 in the second quarter to take a 20-13 halftime lead.
West Florida regrouped in the second half. The Jaguars regained a one-point edge of 34-33 with a 21-13 run in the third quarter and wrapped up the win with a 21-14 edge in the fourth quarter.
Wil DuPont, Blake McKibben and Derek Washington all had 13 points to pace West Florida.
C.J. Williams led the Hurricanes with 21 points, 12 of which came on four three-pointers. Jake Bonds added 11.
Mary Montgomery spoiled Andalusia's debut in the tournament with a 62-49 win over the Bulldogs.
The Vikings led at all stops with quarter leads of 13-10, 27-19 and 50-34.
Marcus Coleman led Mary Montgomery with 16 points, eight of which came in the third quarter when the Vikings pretty much put the game away. Mikhail Torrance chipped in 12 and Shane McIntosh added 11.
Andalusia (3-6) got a game high 18 points from O'Darius Jones and 16 from Chris Cotton, but got just 15 points from the rest of its roster.
