Mr. James Lawrence Raines, 81, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2004, at his Castleberry residence. He was a native of Conecuh County and had returned to Castleberry after living in Mobile and working for the Alabama State Docks for a number of years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the London Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Raines of Castleberry; two sons, Ron (Kay) Raines of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., and Keith Raines of Castleberry; five brothers, Hannis (Nita) Raines, Jr., John (Helen) Raines, Leon (Carolyn) Raines, Harold (Linda) Raines, Horice (Carolyn) Raines; two sisters, Lois (Joe) Merril, Clara (Don) Perez; one grandson, Clarke Raines; and a special great-nephew, Toby Weaver.
Pallbearers were John Pate, Keith Raines, Harold Raines, Jimmy Raines, Tommy Weaver and Gerald Garrett. Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Green, Harold Miniard, William Barnett, Joe Merril, Alton Henderson, Newton Dowden and Lee Morrison.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. from the Craver's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Buddy Williams officiating. Burial followed in the London Cemetery, Craver's Funeral Home directing.
