McCorvey gets All-State honors;Jackson gets Mobile Area H-M

T.R. Miller Lady Tigers basketball center Joy McCorvey has been named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State First Team for the 2004-05 season.
The 6-0 McCorvey led the Lady Tigers in both scoring and rebounding at 18.3 points and 12 boards a game.
Along the way to her All-State honors McCorvey was named the Escambia County Tournament Most Valuable Player. She was also named to the Pensacola Catholic, Area 1 and Regional Tournament Teams.
During the past season McCorvey became just the fourth T.R. Miller girl to reach 1,500 career points and finished the season with 1,607 for her career.
McCorvey was joined on the All-State Team by Jessica Crook, a 5-10 junior forward from Ohatchee, Paige Darwin, a 5-8 junior forward from Pisgah, and Heather Hollis, a 5-11 senior guard from Sulligent. The Class 3A Player of the Year was Robin Porter, a 5-11 senior guard from Abbeville.
The Second Team consisted of Carlie Ainsworth, a 5-4 sophomore from Alabama Christian, Channa Campbell, a 6-2 junior from West Limestone, Brittney Garner, a 5-6 senior guard from Sheffield, Courtney Jones, a 6-2 freshman from Midfield, and Whitni Tucker, a 5-3 junior guard from Pisgah.
Pisgah skipper Carey Ellison was named 3A Coach of the year.
T.R. Miller Tigers senior Damien Jackson received Honorable Mention on the Mobile Register Area Team.
Jackson led the Tigers in scoring this past season at 14.7 points a game and bagged a team high 52 three-pointers. The 6-1 Jackson was the Most Valuable Player at the Class 3A Area 1 Tournament. He was also named to the All-Tournament Teams at Escambia County and T.R. Miller.
No other Class 3A Area 1 players received mention to the team, but county players C.J. Williams of Flomaton and Jeremy McCants of Escambia County also received Honorable Mention.
