A registered sex offender was arrested and charged Thursday for failing to abide by the Sex Offender Act.
In June 2003, Edward Fountain, 38, was arrested for raping a 15-year-old female. He was released March 2004. Required by law, sex offenders must sign a criminal sex offender notification, which lists a permanent address.
Fountain was arrested at his registered address, which is Blueberry Hill Mobile Park, Trailer K, located on Highway 31.
The Domestic Violence Crime Unit in Brewton acted on several tips received from concerned individuals who knew of Fountain's whereabouts.
He added that Fountain had been living with his girlfriend for two weeks. While sex offenders are allowed to leave their registered homes, by law, they are not allowed to spend the night anywhere else.
According to McGougin, there are 45 registered sex offenders in the county. If you would like to see if a sex offender is living on your street, individuals can be found on the Web site: www.acjic.alabama.gov.
